Shake Up

Kathy Ishizuka was laid off from her position as Editor in Chief of School Library Journal late last month when Media Source, Inc. (MSI), the journal’s holding company, announced a “strategic repositioning” across the company.
Kathy joined SLJ in 2004 as technology editor and rose to the position of executive editor until she became editor in chief in 2020. Kathy is a champion of libraries, literacy, and free speech. She’s the person who brought me to SLJ, giving me the opportunity to stretch just a bit. I will be forever grateful. I’m sure she’s finding new ways to stretch herself while feeding her many passions.

Kathy has been an incredible guide and editor – keeping SLJ current and abreast of what matters to school librarians. Her wide range of knowledge and interest, her many personal connections with librarians in the field and her professionalism are unparalleled. So disappointed in this step.- what a misguided move.
So disappointed in this move. I fear for the future of SLJ.
