So Begins 2026 in Books

January 4, 2026 by Edith Campbell   1 comments

What am I looking forward to reading in 2026?

First, I have to say I really am looking forward to reading through the lens of communal storytelling literacies. I’m currently reading Onward: 16 Climate Fiction Short Stories to Inspire Hope edited by Nora Shalaway Carpenter (Charlesbridge Teen) and can’t ignore the importance of place, oral storytelling, and indigenous literacies that help to bring real meaning to each of this stories. So far, all of them deliver sources of hope and promise that are being disrupted through short-sighted human greed. With contributions from Erin Entrada Kelly, Gloria Muñoz, Jeff Zentner, Karina Iceberg, Padma Venkatraman, Aleese Lin, Anuradha D. Rajurkar, Xelena González, Aya de León, M. Garcia Peña, Kim Johnson, Sarah Aronson, Heather Dean Brewer and Rin Chupeco, I think this book may need to be on top of everyone’s reading pile.

Other books I want in my TBR pile include the following.

Wallflower by Jasmin Omar Ata (Viking; 13 Feb)
Mighty Macy by Kwame Alexander. (LBYR; 3 Feb)
Ramin Abbas Has MAJOR Questions by Ahmad Saber (Atheneum/ Caitlyn Dlouhy Books; 3 March) DEBUT
The Kids in Mrs. Z’s Class: Fia Hosein Finds Her Beat by Tracey Baptiste. (LBYR; 3 Mar)
