We Are Kidlit Summer Reading List

I’m so happy to share the We Are Kidlit Summer Reading list with you. This year, Dr. Sujei Lugo led Sam Bloom, Dr. Sonia Alejandra Rodriguez, Lyn Miller Lachmann, Ariana Sani Hussain and myself through our annual process to curate a book list for all ages of children that we work really hard on to find books that are free of all forms of oppression, anti-Blackness, and white supremacy.
In 2026, we pay homage to kidlit creators we lost in 2025 including Marjorie Agosín, Keturah A. Bobo, DéLaNa R.A. Dameron, Ken Mochizuki, Malcolm Jamal Warner, and Alice Wong.

My favorites this year are Orientation (Marvel Avenger Assembly #1), We Celebrate: How We Love, The World’s Poorest President Speaks Out, A Bird in the Air Means We Can Still Breathe, A Forgery of Fate, Cartoonists for Palestine, and The Middle Passage: White Ships / Black Cargo (2017) There are such a diversity of books this year, as always. Which are you looking forward to reading?
You can find the entire list on our website.
Be well and do good
