Filling Our Buckets

February 6, 2026 by Edith Campbell   Leave a Comment

I’ve a few opportunities to share. Most are time sensitive, so please be aware of the deadlines. I have information for you on current scholarships from Boyds Mills, grants from REFORMA and WNDB’s new Unbanned Book Network for classroom educators. Contact them directly if you have questions, I’m just the messenger.

I’m starting you with a link to ways to support the grass roots efforts in Minnesota that are supporting immigrant communities in that state. You may remember that I recently posted information about the Publishers for Minnesota auction that raised $216, 298.00. If you missed that opportunity, or are looking for another, consider Stand With Minnesota.

Stand With Minnesota is a directory of places to donate. It was curated by activists on the ground who are plugged into the situation. Everything is vetted, with the exception of individual GoFundMe’s; not everyone is in their networks, and they didn’t want to pick and choose who is worthy of help. NO DEADLINE, BUT LET’S HOPE THE NEED ENDS SOON

Boyds Mills (formerly the Highlights Foundation) offers scholarships awarded on a yearly basis.  With generous support from their community, these include: General Scholarships from Named Funds (honoring those who have had a significant impact on children’s literature) Special Scholarships, which are specially funded by donors and more specific in intent (i.e. supporting writers and illustrators in specific genres or formats, with certain professional goals, diverse voices, and more) You can find out more about all these awards and determine which you might apply for via their scholarship list. For complete information, visit their website.

The Unbanned Book Network is a brand new program from WNDB designed to break the mold on what children are reading in classrooms while combatting rising censorship that disproportionately targets both diverse books and marginalized authors.

As part of the Unbanned Book Network, WNDB will select 20 under-resourced classrooms in states heavily affected by rising book bans, including but not limited to Texas and Florida.   Each classroom in The Network will receive:
A bookshelf or cart filled with about 100 new diverse titles by banned diverse authors.
A virtual school visit with a diverse Author Ambassador and
a donation of the Author Ambassador’s books.
WNDB will support educators in deepening their students’ love of reading while uplifting diverse creators who are struggling because of book bans. By working hand-in-hand, The Unbanned Book Network will disrupt the status quo through innovation and community building and change what American students are reading—paving the way toward a brighter future.   Are you a classroom educator teaching in a book ban hot spot? Submit an application! 📖
✨ Eligibility Guidelines ✨
Applications are open to K-12 public school teachers based in the U.S. The Network is designed for individual classrooms; school libraries are NOT eligible. Applicants must be located in communities heavily impacted by book bans. News links with documentation are encouraged. 📚🍎.
APPLICATIONS DEADLINE 11:59 PM ET ON FRIDAY 13 February APPLY NOW
